2016 NBA Trade Deadline Diary

  • Bucks Holding onto Greg Monroe?

Milwaukee Bucks forward Greg Monroe won’t be dealt before Thursday’s trade deadline, according to two people with direct knowledge of the situation.

Teams have placed calls to the Bucks to see if they can acquire Monroe, who is in his first year with the team. But those conversations didn’t advance, and one person said with emphasis there is zero chance Monroe is traded.

  • Bucks Remain Interested in Acquiring Jeff Teague?

It’s no secret the Bucks’ front office has an affinity for (Jeff) Teague. In fact, the Bucks gave Teague an offer sheet a couple of years ago when he was a restricted free agent and many in the Teague camp thought he was Milwaukee bound, until the Hawks matched the four-year, $32 million offer at the last minute.

You can safely assume the Bucks’ interest in Teague hasn’t waned. They’re making a concerted effort to find a new starting point guard to replace Michael Carter-Williams, whom they acquired from Philadelphia last February in a multi-trade deal that sent Brandon Knight to Phoenix.

  • GM Rich Cho on Dwight Howard to Hornets: No Comment

(Hornets GM Rich) Cho was asked about rumors Tuesday that the Hornets have had discussions with the Houston Rockets about possibly acquiring center Dwight Howard.

Cho laughed in response to the question, then said, “It’s my policy not to comment on trade rumors. I’d like to leave it at that.”

  • Source: Bucks Tell Carter-Williams He Could Be Dealt

(Michael) Carter-Williams has been in and out of the starting lineup this season and it’s well known in NBA circles he is available. The truth of the matter is the Bucks have quietly been open to dealing Carter-Williams for some time.

Carter-Williams apparently is well aware of shaky status in Milwaukee. A source said Carter-Williams has been told he could possibly be dealt and, after the Wizards game, he hardly looked like a happy camper.

  • Wolves May Put Off Ricky Rubio Trade Until Summer

Minnesota hasn't been actively searching for a trade for point guard Ricky Rubio this week, but that is likely to change this summer, league sources told The Vertical.

Minnesota may start canvassing the market for a better shooting point guard to pair with young stars Karl Anthony-Towns and Andrew Wiggins. One NBA coach who has long been enamored with Rubio, league sources said: Milwaukee's Jason Kidd. The New York Knicks' desire to find a point guard could lead them to Rubio, too.

  • Wizards Actively Reviewing Trade Options to Fit Vision?

Washington is actively searching for ways to bolster its roster, according to people with knowledge of the situation, though options are limited with the team’s short- and long-term visions in mind.

The Wizards do not believe a significant overhaul is necessary to ascend into the top eight in the Eastern Conference standings for a third straight playoff berth.

The Wizards’ likelier deadline scenario is acquiring a player whose salary won’t absorb any of the cap room required for a max-contract level player in free agency. That leaves either players on expiring contracts or players who will make less than the $8 million or $9 million the Wizards expect to have available beyond a max-contract player this summer.

Suns still determined to get a young player & a 1st in return for Markieff Morris. To this point, firsts are there but not appealing player.

  • Magic Still Shopping Bench Guys

Several of the Magic’s bench guys were told that the team would try and find a better home for them before the deadline. This includes forward Andrew Nicholson and guard Shabazz Napier.

Orlando is not looking for much in return for either player and both are on ending deals.

The Magic won’t do a bad deal just to make a move, but both are expected to be shopped pretty aggressively as the deadline approaches.

  • Ryan Anderson and The Wizards?

If the Clippers cannot consummate a deal with the Pelicans for Ryan Anderson, expect the Washington Wizards to return to the front of the line for Anderson in trade. The Wizards have made several passes at New Orleans on Anderson, but are unwilling to include draft picks in their offer.

  • Channing Frye To The Clippers?

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the Los Angeles Clippers and Orlando Magic have the frame work of a trade that would send forward Channing Frye to the Clippers in exchange for Lance Stephenson, C.J. Wilcox and a future second-round pick. The Magic would immediately waive or buyout Stephenson, who would be included to complete the cap math.

The Clippers are said to be working on another option, which could be Ryan Anderson from the New Orleans Pelicans. Meanwhile, the Magic are also exploring other options, which could be Timofey Mozgov from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

According to the Report, the Clippers are expected to make their final decision at some point today.

  • Lakers Likely to Remain Silent as Trade Deadline Approaches

Unless some significant move comes to the Lakers’ doorstep, you’d think any young piece wouldn’t be on the move come Thursday. Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle, D’Angelo Russell and Larry Nance Jr. shouldn’t be considered “untouchable,” but the Lakers likely won’t be breaking up their young core.
