Minnesota Timberwolves’ basketball president Flip Saunders on Friday will be at Madison Square Garden, where Michigan State plays Virginia and Iowa State plays UConn in NCAA men’s basketball tournament East Regional games. Although Saunders won’t say, he could be watching his team’s next head coach.
It has seemed for some time that the chances of Rick Adelman, 67, returning to coach the Wolves after three playoff-less seasons are remote, despite a $20 million, four-year contract. The deal includes opt-out clauses for both parties, and Adelman’s wife, Mary Kay, has had health issues that caused the future hall of fame coach to miss 11 games.
Pelicans’ Alvin Gentry Blasts Officiating After Loss to Rockets
For the second consecutive game, the coach opposing the Houston Rockets finished the night with an epic rant against the officials. This time, it was New Orleans’ Alvin Gentry, who fired off against the referees following the Pelicans’ 107-101 home defeat.
“The thing that bothers me more than anything, and I really don’t care, we try to play the right way, and we play our asses off,” Gentry said. “All we want is an equal opportunity to win the game. Not have a situation where we are guessing on the biggest play of the game, where they call a 3-point foul from the corner.
