Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge will have surgery on a torn ligament in his left thumb later this week and be out 6-8 weeks, the team said Thursday.

Aldridge suffered the injury Monday in Portland’s 98-94 win over Sacramento, and a second MRI confirmed Thursday that he has a radial collateral ligament tear in the thumb.

The three-time All-Star leads the team with 23.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. He won two league player-of-the-week awards in December and finished sixth among frontcourt players in All-Star voting released Thursday.

Aldridge, who is in his ninth season, is second on the franchise’s career scoring and rebounding lists.
