“It’s very disappointing to get in a hole like that,” coach Tom Thibodeau said.
Playing without the suspended Nene, the Wizards scored Game 4’s first 14 points, led by as many as 23, withstood every charge and walked off the Verizon Center court amid strewn confetti with a 98-89 victory.
“It’s really disappointing,” Joakim Noah said.
If troubling trends — slow starts, turnovers, below-average defense — aren’t fixed by Tuesday’s Game 5, the disappointment will linger into the offseason. The Bulls have never rallied from a 3-1 deficit to win a playoff series in franchise history.
“It’s just disappointing,” Kirk Hinrich said. “We thought the mistakes we’re making, we could correct them.”

Bobby Portis Apologizes to Bulls for Mirotic Fight
Bobby Portis has apologized to his Bulls teammates for getting into a fight that left Nikola Mirotic with facial fractures and a concussion. “He didn’t address us today, but he did address the team before so that was taken care of,” Bulls swingman Justin Holiday said after Friday’s practice.
Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg acknowledged that Portis’ apology took place during a team meeting but did not want to go into specific details about his message. “I’ll keep that between the team,” Hoiberg said, “as far as exactly what was said in that meeting.”
