In a surprising move, Byron Mullens opted out of his contract with the Sixers to become a free agent.
General manager Sam Hinkie announced the move Friday.
The 25-year-old, 7-footer held a player option for nearly $1.1 million for the 2014-15 season. It was assumed that Mullens would take the guaranteed money and playing time with a rebuilding Sixers squad, but he has other plans.
“I think he’s going to do something else,” Hinkie said.
