Eastern Kentucky pulled off a significant upset on Friday when it routed No. 18 Miami 72-44 on the Hurricanes’ home floor in Coral Gables, Fla.

Corey Walden scored 18 points for the Colonels (6-4), who had lost four of their past five games before dominating Miami.

Eastern Kentucky held a slim two-point lead at halftime, then used a 22-2 run early in the second half to pull away.

Miami (9-2) went scoreless for a span of 8:27 early in the second half to take itself out of the game.

Sheldon McClellan had 14 points for the Hurricanes, who shot 29.3 percent from the field, while Eastern Kentucky shot 50.9 percent overall and 53.8 percent (14 of 26) on 3-point shots.

Guard Isaac McGlore came off the Eastern Kentucky bench to hit all four of his 3-point attempts to finish with 12 points.

Miami had wins over Florida and Illinois this season, but has now lost two of its last three games.

No. 20 St. John’s 53, Saint Mary;s 47

St. John’s overcame a 15-point halftime deficit to pull out the win in New York.

Guard D’Angelo Harrison scored 21 points for the Red Storm (9-1), who scored just 18 points in the first half, but opened the second half with 27-8 run to take control.

Forward Brad Waldow had 26 points and 11 rebounds for the Gaels (6-3), who shot poorly, making just 35.3 percent of their shots from the floor, 16.7 percent (2 for 12) from 3-point range and 52.9 percent (9 for 17) from the foul line.

No. 3 Arizona 60, UTEP 55

Arizona, playing its first true road game of the season, used a surge midway through the second half to get by UTEP in El Paso, Texas.

Freshman forward Stanley Johnson had 17 points for the Wildcats, who burst out to a 15-2 lead but found themselves trailing by a point at the 10:16 mark of the season half.

Arizona (12-0) then scored eight straight points to take a 48-41 lead, with center Kaleb Tarczewski scoring all five of his points in that spurt.

Forward Vince Hunter had 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Miners (6-4), who had been 4-0 at home.
