The College of Charleston jumped on top early and took full advantage of a tired William & Mary squad to earn an 87-54 victory Wednesday in Charleston, S.C.
Charleston (14-14, 6-7 Colonial Athletic Association) led 36-20 at the half, making six of its 12 3-point attempts and outrebounding the Tribe 23-13.
William & Mary missed 12 of its 13 3-point tries before intermission, and took just one shot from long-range after the break, missing that one as well.
The Cougars began the second half with an 11-4 run to end any lingering suspense. Charleston outscored the visitors 51-34 after the break.
The Tribe (16-10, 8-5) played for the third time in five days, and it showed. After losing to Towson 85-70 on Saturday and beating North Carolina-Wilmington 93-70 on Monday, William & Mary looked a few steps slow.
The fatigue was evident mainly on the defensive end. Charleston shot 34-for-53 (64.2 percent) from the field and 14-for-22 (63.6 percent) from 3-point range.
Forward Willis Hall, who led the Cougars with 21 points, made eight of his 10 shots and three of his four 3-point attempts. Guard Canyon Barry added 17 points off the Charleston bench.
Forward Tim Rusthoven and guard Omar Prewitt each had 13 points for William & Mary, which shot 19-for-51 (37.3 percent) overall.
