Potential first overall draft pick Joel Embiid is undergoing tests to learn whether he fractured his foot in a recent workout.

ESPN first reported the injury, which was confirmed by agent Arn Tellem.

“He suffered a foot injury to his right foot sometime over the last few days,” Tellem told ESPN.com. “He’s getting evaluations from various doctors and experts in the field. We’ll know more Friday.”

An ESPN.com source said that Embiid “may have broken” his foot, but Tellem wouldn’t speculate on the seriousness of the injury until he had heard from doctors.

Tellem also said it was unlikely Embiid would be doing any more workouts before next week’s draft.

The 7-footer from Kansas was in the mix to be the top pick, but another injury could push the Cleveland Cavaliers toward Jayhawks forward Andrew Wiggins or Duke’s Jabari Parker.

Embiid missed the postseason in March with a stress fracture in his back, which some teams believe could be a chronic issue. He averaged 11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks as a freshman last season.

Embiid, 18, is relatively new to the game of basketball.

He had been scheduled to work out for the Milwaukee Bucks this week, an indication he was not told by the Cavaliers that he would be the top overall pick.

He was the first of the lottery prospects to visit Cleveland. The Cavaliers have not hired a head coach but were hopeful the search to secure their third coach in three seasons would be complete before the June 26 draft.

Cleveland drafted No. 1 overall in 2013 and UNLV’s Anthony Bennett was a non-factor as a rookie. He missed out on the pre-draft process following shoulder surgery last spring.
