Ex-Suns player Chapman arrested
Police arrested former Phoenix Suns guard and NBA executive Rex Chapman on Friday and accused him of stealing more than $14,000 in merchandise from an Apple Store in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The 46-year-old Chapman faces nine felony counts of organized retail theft and five counts of trafficking in stolen property.
The thefts took place during seven store visits over the past few months when Chapman appeared to be paying for the merchandise through a self-checkout system on an iPhone app, according to Scottsdale, Ariz., police.
Chapman left the store without completing the purchases and took the items to a local pawn shop to sell for cash, Scottsdale Police spokesman St. Mark Clark said, according to AZCentral.com.
Police were notified in August after store employees recognized Chapman as a former NBA player. He was arrested Friday afternoon following an investigation by property crimes detectives.
The former University of Kentucky standout was drafted in 1988 by the Charlotte Hornets and retired as a player in 2000. He went on to become a vice president of player development for the Denver Nuggets.
