Florida Atlantic 54, UCF 41

Florida Atlantic took advantage of UCF’s epic second-half scoring drought to run away with a 54-41 victory in college basketball Saturday night in Orlando.

The visiting Owls scored the last five points of the first half to close to within 26-25 at the intermission, then scored the first five points of the second before the Knights got into the scoring column when guard Adonys Henriquez hit one of two free throws that made it a 30-27 game.

The Owls continued to run out to a 46-28 advantage before the Knights got their first field goal of the second half on forward A.J. Davis’ follow of center Justin McBride’s miss from underneath, UCF’s 18th consecutive miss of the second half and 19th in a row after taking a 26-20 lead late in the first half.

FAU’s biggest lead was 50-30 with just over four minutes left in the game.

The Knights, who lost their third in a row to fall to 5-4, ended up shooting 25.5 percent for the game (13-of-51) after going just 5-of-31 from the field over the last 20 minutes.

The Owls, who won their third consecutive game to improve to 5-3, didn’t exactly burn up the nets themselves, shooting only 34.7 percent for the game in going 17-of-49 from the field.

Guard Jackson Trapp with 15 points was the only Owl in double figures.

UCF guard B.J. Taylor led all scorers with 17 points.

It was FAU’s first road win of the season after three losses.

UCF lost at home for the second time in seven outings.
