Forward Christian Sengfelder scored all 19 of his points in the second half as Fordham pulled away for a 74-59 victory over Howard Sunday night at Rose Hill Gymnasium in the Bronx, N.Y.

Guard Mandell Thomas had 17 points, seven assists, six rebounds and three steals for Fordham (4-6) which never trailed and stretched its lead to 19 points in the second half.

Guard Eric Paschall added 15 points and forward Ryan Rhoomes contributed 11 points and nine rebounds as the Rams snapped a two-game losing streak.

Off to its best start since 2001-02, Howard (7-8) got 19 points from guard James Daniel and 12 from guard James Carlton.

The Bison hung with the Rams for a half but couldn’t match their firepower after intermission when Daniel scored just four points.

Fordham took an early lead as Thomas made a jumper, two free throws and passed to guard Nemanja Zarkovic for a 3-pointer in a 7-0 run that put the Rams up 16-8. But with Daniel scoring inside and out, the Bison tied it three times in the final six minutes of the half.

Sengfelder had 11 of Fordham’s first 12 points after intermission. His 3-pointer 4:22 into the second half gave the Rams a 40-30 lead and from there Howard never made a serious run.

Fordham’s biggest lead, 69-50, came with 3:15 left when Thomas made a layup.

The Rams made 53.8 percent of their shots from the floor and 12 of 13 free throws (92.3 percent) while holding Howard to 37 percent shooting from the floor.

In beating Howard for the second straight year to improve to 2-0 in the series, Fordham also outrebounded Howard 37-24, getting eight boards from Sengfelder.
