Former Louisville forward Chane Behanan declared for the NBA draft.

Behanan, who was dismissed from Louisville in December, signed with Colorado State in January and started taking online courses.

The Coloradoan initially reported Behanan’s intention to enter the draft and he confirmed his decision in a text message to ESPN.com.

“I love the game and I want to compete with the best,” he wrote. “I also want to show the NBA and the people that Chane Behanan wasn’t raised like everybody talks about. My family was devastated about my decision-making in the past, and believe me I’ve heard it from them still (to) this day. But I am human. It’s behind us and it’s nothing but moving forward from here on out.”

Behanan, 6-foot-6, helped the Cardinals win the 2013 NCAA title but his marijuana use got him booted from the team. He was also cited for marijuana possession in Louisville earlier this month. He was not arrested but has a court date set for Tuesday.

Behanan, a junior, played just 12 games this season before getting dismissed from the team. In 2012-13, he averaged 9.8 points and 6.5 rebounds and had 15 points and 12 rebounds as Louisville beat Michigan in the national title game.
