Two streaks came to an end on Tuesday night at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio

The George Mason Patriots won their first road game of the season, handing the Wright State Raiders (8-5) their first home loss of the season, 68-60.

After trailing by as many as 17 points, the Raiders made it close.

Junior center Shevon Thompson scored 24 points and added 14 rebounds to pace the Patriots, who were winless in four previous road/neutral-site contests this season. The Raiders, meanwhile, hadn’t lost at home in their previous six regular-season games, including the first four this season.

Trailing 17-16 midway through the first half, George Mason (5-6) used a quick 5-0 spurt to gain control. Thompson nailed a jumper on an assist from junior guard Patrick Holloway to give the Patriots the lead. Thompson split a pair of free throws 40 seconds later and freshman guard Isaiah Jackson hit a jumper to give George Mason a 21-17 advantage.

The Patriots carried that momentum and built a 12-point lead when junior forward Marko Gujanicic buried a 3-pointer at the 4:22 mark to put George Mason ahead, 31-19.

Wright State sophomore forward Steven Davis scored seven points in the final 2:20 to trim the deficit to 35-28 at the break, but the Patriots jumped out again to a double-digit lead early in the second half.

Jackson and Thompson combined to score 10 points in the first four minutes as the Patriots increased their lead to 47-30, but Wright State made a late rally.

Senior guard Chrishawn Hopkins scored back-to-back baskets to get the deficit to single digits as the Raiders trailed, 57-49, with 6:14 remaining in regulation.

Hopkins later added a layup after junior forward JT Yoho scored five consecutive points and the Raiders were within four at 62-58 with 1:41 to play. Yoho finished with a game-high 16 points.

Thompson and Jackson each converted a pair of free throws in the final 22 seconds, though, to secure the victory for the Patriots.
