Hip Surgery Ruled Out for Isaiah Thomas

Hip surgery has been ruled out for Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas, president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said on Wednesday.

Ainge said that Thomas, who severely aggravated an injury to his right hip during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals, has resumed light on-court work and has been ramping up his cardiovascular training off the court.

“Isaiah is making good progress,” Ainge said. “He’s out on the court; he’s shooting. He’s full-speed ahead on the stationary bike and working in the swimming pool. He’s progressing nicely.”

Thomas originally injured the hip during the third quarter of the March 15 game against the Timberwolves and missed the next two games. The two-time All-Star aggravated the injury in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Wizards, yet pushed on. But following the Game 2 loss to Cleveland a week later, the pain was simply too severe for him to continue.

Steve Kerr: Warriors Operating like Andre Iguodala Out for Game 7

Golden State Warriors forward Andre Iguodala sat out Game 6 of the Western Conference finals over the Houston Rockets on Saturday night in Oakland, California, and his ability to suit up for Game 7 on Monday is in doubt, as well.

Speaking after the Warriors’ 115-86 win, coach Steve Kerr cast doubt on whether the veteran forward will play in the decisive Game 7 in Houston.

“We’re operating under the assumption that he will not play, but he is literally day-to-day,” Kerr said. “It’s a bone bruise, there’s not sort of a timetable, it’s more just up to the individual and how he’s feeling, and we don’t really know. So we’ll just keep taking it day by day and see what happens.”

Kevin Love will not play in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ decisive Game 7 on Sunday against the Boston Celtics, as the All-Star forward has been placed in the concussion protocol.

The Cavaliers announced that Love is experiencing concussion-like symptoms after his collision with the Celtics’ Jayson Tatum in the first quarter of Friday’s game.

Just before the team’s announcement, confusion had reigned over Love’s status. Coach Tyronn Lue initially stated during a conference call that Love was in the concussion protocol. He then backtracked after further questioning to say that Love was still being evaluated and that he didn’t know about the protocol process or whether Love would go into it.
