Hofstra had five players score in double figures, led by 19 points from junior guard Juan’ya Green, in a 84-56 win over Central Connecticut State in a nonconference game on Wednesday afternoon in New Britain, Conn.

Junior wing Ameen Tanksley added 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Also reaching double figures were senior center Moussa Kone (12 points), sophomore guard Brian Bernardi (11) and freshman guard Dion Nesmith (11).

Central Connecticut State (2-11) was led by senior forward Faronte Drakeford, who finished with 20 points and eight rebounds.

Hofstra (9-4) shot 53.2 percent from the field compared with 34.9 percent for Central Connecticut State. Kone was 6 of 6 from the field for the Pride.

The Blue Devils struggled from three-point range, making only 2 of 12. Sophomore guard Matt Mobley hit only 2 of 9 from beyond the arc.

Hofstra, which never trailed, went on a 16-2 run midway through the first half to take control with a 34-16 lead with 5:57 left before halftime. Central Connecticut State did not threaten thereafter.

Hofstra enters Colonial Athletic Association play next week with six wins in its last eight games. Central Connecticut State, of the Northeast Conference, is on a four-game losing streak.
