Rod Higgins resigned as the Charlotte Hornets’ president of basketball operations, the team announced in a press release Thursday night.
General manager Rich Cho is the new head of basketball operations, reporting to team chairman Michael Jordan and vice chairman Curtis Polk.
“I would like to thank Rod for his seven years of dedication to this organization,” Jordan said in a statement. “Rod has been a consummate professional throughout his time with the team. Thanks to his hard work and commitment, we have an improved roster and we are poised for success in the future. Rod was of great help to me as I navigated my first four years as majority owner of this franchise. I wish him all the best.”
Under Higgins, the then-Charlotte Bobcats made two appearances in the postseason, getting swept in the first round by the Miami Heat this year and in the first round by the Orlando Magic in 2010. The franchise changed its name to the Charlotte Hornets after the current season.
Higgins also was the general manager of the Golden State Warriors from 2004-05 through 2006-07, with the team reaching the second round of the postseason in his final year on the job.
In a 13-season NBA playing career with the Chicago Bulls, Seattle SuperSonics, San Antonio Spurs, New Jersey Nets, Golden State, Sacramento Kings and Cleveland Cavaliers, Higgins averaged nine points and 3.6 rebounds from 1982-95.
