Indiana sophomore forward Devin Davis was in serious condition Saturday morning after he was hit by a car driven by a teammate.
According to the school, Davis was injured after being struck by freshman Emmitt Holt. Davis was taken to a Bloomington hospital.
Holt, 17, had a blood alcohol content level of 0.025.
“Early this morning, an accident occurred on the Indiana University campus involving two of the school’s basketball players,” Indiana University said in a press release. “Based on preliminary information, sophomore Devin Davis was injured after being struck by a vehicle driven by teammate freshman Emmitt Holt, just moments after exiting that vehicle.”
The school said that Holt was cited for illegal consumption and operating a vehicle with a BAC above 0.02.
“First and foremost, our thoughts are with Devin and his family and we pray that his condition improves in the coming days,” coach Tom Crean said in a statement. “An injury to one of us is an injury to all of us and we are devastated by the news. We will continue to support Devin and Emmitt in every possible way and I know the Hoosier family will come together to rally for these young men. We are working to gather additional information on the accident.”
Davis, 6-foot-7, averaged 2.4 points and 2.6 rebounds last season.
The Hoosiers’ “Haunted Hall of Hoops” will still take place Saturday but the scrimmage was cancelled, according to 247Sports.com.
