Florida Atlantic men’s basketball coach Mike Jarvis announced Friday that he will resign at the end of the season.

The Sun Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., reported that Florida Atlantic was set to fire Jarvis, but athletic director Pat Chun gave Jarvis, 68, the option to resign instead.

Jarvis will coach the Owls for their final two regular-season games as well as in the Conference USA tournament.

Jarvis is in his sixth season as the Owls head coach and had one year remaining on his contract.

Florida Atlantic blew a 16-point lead in a loss to Tulane on Wednesday. That was the Owls’ fourth straight loss and dropped their record to 10-19 overall and 5-9 in Conference USA with two regular-season games remaining.

Jarvis had a 77-109 record at Florida Atlantic.
