Jordan memorabilia auctioned off

Three pieces of memorabilia related to Michael Jordan’s North Carolina career sold at an auction Saturday morning, as well as a game-worn Olympics Dream Team uniform.

Jordan’s original college diploma and two recruiting letters sold for more than $50,000 combined, while the uniform fetched $32,682. The items were sold by Goldin Auctions.

The two letters were originally obtained from a storage locker rented by a Jordan-owned restaurant in Chapel Hill that was sold after payments were not made.

Jordan’s mother, Deloris, said the letters were not genuine because she kept all of his recruiting letters, according to ESPN.

However, she failed to produce the identical letters, and Goldin Auctions received several letters from experts who authenticated them based on the paper the letters were on and the handwriting by then- head coach Dean Smith and assistant coach Bill Guthridge.

The letter from Smith to Jordan sold for $27,009, while Guthridge’s letter went for $4,732.

The diploma, which may not be the only one issued to Jordan, sold for $20,785.
