The New York Knicks signed forward Lamar Odom for the remainder of the season with a non-guaranteed team option for 2014-15, the team announced Wednesday.
The move reunites new Knicks president of basketball operations Phil Jackson with Odom, who played under Jackson when he coached the Los Angeles Lakers.
Financial terms were not disclosed by the team, but reports indicated that Odom was to earn $8,500 for the final game of the regular season, which was Wednesday night against the Toronto Raptors. Signing Odom now gives the Knicks the opportunity to evaluate his ability to resume his basketball career before the start of next season.
The 6-foot-10 Odom has career averages of 13.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 14 seasons with the Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks. He last played in the NBA for the Clippers during the 2012-13 season, averaging 4.0 points and 5.9 rebounds in 82 games.
Last summer, he was arrested on a DUI charge and rumors surfaced that he was dealing with a drug problem.
Earlier this season, Odom played in two games in Spain before returning to the United States because of an injury.
