Justin Goldsborough scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and teammate Tim Kempton nearly matched him, adding 12 points and 11 boards as Lehigh rallied for a 58-55 victory over Maryland-Baltimore County on Sunday at the RAC Arena in Catonsville, Md.

UMBC, again playing with a short bench, became even more short-handed when forward Will Darley left in the second half with a knee injury and could not return. Still, the Retrievers led for long stretches in the second half.

The Retrievers held a 52-46 advantage before Lehigh (6-5) scored 12 of the game’s final 15 points. Kempton, a center, made a hook shot for a 56-52 lead with just over a minute left.

UMBC (2-10) cut the deficit to 56-55 when guard Wayne Sparrow drilled a 3-pointer with 35.7 seconds remaining. Lehigh guard Corey Schaefer missed the front end of a one-and-one with 23.3 seconds, but the Retrievers turned the ball over three times in the final 7.9 seconds.

Lehigh guard Kahron Price added two free throws with 5.2 seconds left for the final margin, but the UMBC turnovers helped.

Sparrow carried the UMBC offense with 24 points but committed one of the three turnovers at the end. Forward Devarick Houston added 10 points and nine rebounds in the loss.

UMBC next plays Friday when it hosts NJIT before getting into the America East schedule. Lehigh, which won for the sixth time in seven games after an 0-4 start, hosts Colgate on Wednesday afternoon.
