Chris Jones, the starting point guard for 12th-ranked Louisville, was dismissed from the team, the school announced Sunday.

Jones had been suspended for last Wednesday’s loss to Syracuse for non-basketball reasons, but was reinstated and played in Saturday’s 55-53 victory over Miami. He scored 17 points in 36 minutes.

The school provided no reason for Jones’ dismissal, and coach Rick Pitino told the Louisville Courier-Journal, “He’s finished. There won’t be any comment.”

Jones, a senior who joined Louisville prior to last season from junior college, was averaging 13.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists this season.

Jones was also a standout defender and was a key part of the Cardinals’ pressure defense.

Freshman Quentin Snider, who scored 13 points in 38 minutes in the loss to Syracuse, is likely to take Jones’ spot in the starting lineup.

Louisville is 21-5 and faces Georgia Tech on Monday.
