Loyola-Chicago 71, Texas-San Antonio 57

Sophomore guard Milton Doyle scored 27 points, leading visiting the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers to a 71-57 victory over the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners on Tuesday night at UTSA Convocation Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Doyle led three players who scored in double figures for Loyola (3-1), which shot 46.9 percent while holding UTSA to 37-percent shooting. Senior forward Christian Thomas and junior guard Devon Turk added 11 points apiece for the Ramblers.

Senior forward Jeromie Hill scored 19 points to lead the Roadrunners (2-2).

The game remained close throughout the first half. Junior guard Earl Peterson made a jumper to give Loyola a 17-16 lead with 10:03 to play in the opening period, but UTSA reclaimed the lead seconds later on a 3-pointer by freshman center James Ringholt.

Doyle and senior guard Joe Crisman made back-to-back 3-pointers to help the Ramblers go up 27-21 with 5:26 remaining, but the Roadrunners ended the half with a 12-0 run to take a 33-27 lead into the locker room at the break.

UTSA took a 37-30 lead on a layup by junior guard Ryan Bowie with 16:58 remaining, but Loyola rallied to tie the game at 37-37 on a layup by Thomas with 14:10 to play. The teams continued to exchange leads until Turk made back-to-back 3-pointers, starting a 15-4 run that put Loyola up 54-44 with 6:03 to go. The Roadrunners cut the deficit to seven on a couple of occasions in the final minutes, but they couldn’t get any closer.
