Forward Christian Thomas led a balanced attack with 18 points as Loyola (Ill.) won its fourth straight with a 73-57 victory over Southern Utah in a Las Vegas Classic tournament game on Friday night at Gentile Arena in Chicago.

Guard Devon Turk and forward Montel James had 13 points apiece and guard Jeff White added 10 for the Ramblers (8-2) in the first meeting between the teams.

The Thunderbirds (2-6) dropped their second straight despite 13 points from forward A.J. Hess and 12 from guard James McGee.

Loyola never trailed in the game and jumped to an early 12-2 lead on the way to a 38-20 halftime edge behind Thomas’ 12 first-half points.

The Ramblers’ lead quickly reached 20 on Turk’s jumper to open the second half and never slipped below 13 points.

Both teams move on to Las Vegas’ Orleans Arena for Monday games. Southern Utah plays Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Loyola meets Texas Tech. The tournament concludes Tuesday.
