According to an ESPN report, the Dallas Mavericks have reached out to free agent small forward Al-Farouq Aminu. This summer’s free agent small forward market is packed with guys who will command a much higher dollar value than Aminu such as Carmelo Anthony, Chandler Parsons, Trevor Ariza, Luol Deng and Paul Pierce. So the Mavericks could be willing to take a chance on a younger and less expensive player who could ultimately blossom in their system.

Aminu averaged 7.2 points and 6.5 rebounds for the New Orleans Pelicans last season and is known for his athleticism and defense.

On a Per-36 minute basis Aminu has careers averages of 8.5 rebounds per game. The Mavericks may lose veteran forward Shawn Marion, who is also a free agent this summer, so exploring a possible deal with Aminu could be viewed as an insurance policy.
