NEW YORK — Kyrie Irving scored a season-high 37 points to lift the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 90-87 win over the New York Knicks on Thursday at Madison Square Garden.
Cleveland (10-7) won a season-best fifth game in a row. The Knicks (4-16) lost their sixth consecutive game and 15th of their past 17; they are off to the worst start in franchise history.
Cavaliers forward LeBron James added 19 points and 12 assists.
New York received 20 points from guard Tim Hardaway Jr. Forward Amar’e Stoudemire added 18 points, and forward Quincy Acy scored a career-high 15.
Carmelo Anthony missed a 3-pointer that would have tied the game with six seconds and guard Jose Calderon’s made 3-pointer was ruled it went in after the buzzer.
Warriors 112, Pelicans 85
OAKLAND, Calif. — Golden State held New Orleans to 12 second-quarter points while building a 13-point lead, then gradually pulled away in the second half for an 11th consecutive victory.
In beating the Pelicans for an eighth straight time, the Warriors (16-2) improved their league-best record while also matching the franchise record for consecutive wins, set initially during the 1971-72 season.
The Warriors, who lead the league in defensive field-goal percentage, limited the Pelicans to 6-for-23 shooting (26.1 percent) in the game-changing second period, which began with New Orleans leading 28-22.
Shooting guard Klay Thompson paced the Warriors with 23 points in 33 minutes. Pelicans power forward Anthony Davis hit 14 of his 19 shots en route to a game-high 30 points, and he grabbed 15 rebounds.
Trail Blazers 88, Pacers 82
PORTLAND, Ore. — Guard Damian Lillard scored 23 points as Portland held off Indiana at the Moda Center.
Forward LaMarcus Aldridge collected 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Trail Blazers (15-4), who won for the 12th time in the last 13 outings.
Forward Solomon Hill scored 15 points with eight rebounds for the Pacers (7-12), who lost their third straight game.
Neither team shot as high as 40 percent for the game — Portland .398, Indiana .396. The Blazers won the game at the free-throw line, making 18 of 23 attempts to only five of eight for the Pacers.
