Raptors’ Valanciunas charged with DUI

Toronto Raptors center Jonas Valanciunas has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, the team confirmed Monday.

Ontario Provincial Police arrested Valanciunas at a home early Monday morning.

Valanciunas, 21, is in his second season with the Raptors. He is averaging 11 points and 8.6 rebounds a game.

“We were made aware this morning of the incident involving Jonas Valanciunas and are disappointed he has put himself in this situation,” a team statement said. “We take this matter very seriously as we have the highest expectations for all members of our organization. At this time we are continuing to gather information and we will comment further when appropriate.”

Valanciunas also released a statement through the team:

“I hold myself to a high standard and take my role as a member of the Toronto Raptors very seriously. I apologize to the organization, my teammates, my family and my fans, and regret any negativity this incident has brought upon them.”

Suns’ Goodwin faces disorderly conduct charge

Phoenix Suns guard Archie Goodwin was arrested in his native Arkansas last week and charged with charged with disorderly conduct.

The 19-year-old, who completed his rookie season in the NBA last month, was taken into custody outside a skating rink in Little Rock on May 4 after he was told twice by authorities to stop cursing and being aggressive toward another person.

Goodwin then attempted to break away from a trooper after the arrest, said Arkansas State Police public information officer Bill Sadler.

Goodwin was booked into a Sherwood, Ark., jail. His court date is set for June 3, according to The Arizona Republic.

The former Kentucky player, who was selected No. 29 overall in the first round of the 2013 draft, saw action in 52 games with the Suns this past season and also spent time in the NBA Development League.

In the final game of the regular season, Goodwin turned in his best performance, scoring 29 points and making 11 of 13 shots from the field. He finished 2013-14 with averages of 3.7 points and 1.7 rebounds per game.
