Report: Former Knicks F Mason suffers heart failure
Former NBA player Anthony Mason is fighting for his life after suffering congestive heart failure, according to a report.
The 48-year-old Mason has undergone four surgeries, including one that last nine hours, NBA writer Peter Vescey reported Wednesday.
A former teammate told the New York Daily News that Mason’s condition was grave.
Vescey reported that Mason’s sons, Anthony Jr. and Antoine, were at his side in the hospital. Anthony played college basketball at St. John’s and Antoine is at Auburn after transferring from Niagara.
Anthony Mason spent 13 seasons in the NBA with six teams, including five with the New York Knicks. He was an All-Star in 2001 with the Miami Heat and was the NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 1995.
Mason averaged 10.8 points and 8.3 rebounds during his career.
