Three Maryland players are leaving the program and plan to transfer to other schools, the school announced Tuesday night.
Guard-forward Nick Faust, guard Roddy Peters and forward Shaquille Cleare were granted releases from their scholarships.
“I really enjoyed coaching Nick, Shaq and Roddy,” Terrapins coach Mark Turgeon said in a statement. “It is unfortunate that they will no longer be a part of the program. I wish them the very best in their future endeavors.”
The mass exit leaves Maryland, which enters the Big Ten next season, with two open scholarships for 2014-15.
Faust was the biggest producer last season, averaging 9.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Peters, a freshman, contributed 4.1 points, 1.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists. The 6-foot-9 Cleare finished the season at 3.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
Maryland welcomes a large recruiting class next fall that includes 7-foot center Michal Cekovsky from Spain, Melo Trimble, Dion Wiley, Trayvon Reed and Jared Nickens. The Terrapins also return their top four scorers and leading rebounder from 2013-14.
In their final season in the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Terrapins finished 17-15 overall and 9-9 in conference games.
