Forward Justin Tillman scored 16 points, and Virginia Commonwealth got a dominating performance from its bench in a 78-51 nonconference victory over Belmont on Tuesday.

Guard Treveon Graham was the only VCU starter in double figures with 11 points, as the starting five combined to shoot 9-for-25 and totaled 22 points. However, the bench, led by Tillman and guard JeQuan Lewis with 13 points and five steals, picked up the slack with 56 points, nine steals and 10 assists.

The Rams (7-3) started the game off on a 19-7 run and never were threatened again. VCU led 34-21 at halftime, holding Belmont to 6-for-18 shooting, and the Bruins couldn’t get closer than 11 after intermission.

It was the second win in a row for the Rams, who knocked off Northern Iowa in double overtime on Saturday. Belmont (7-4) lost its third in a row after starting the season 7-1.

VCU again was led by its defense, generating 11 steals and 17 Belmont turnovers. Four Bruins turned the ball over at least two times apiece.

Belmont was led by guard Evan Bradds, who scored 15 points. No other Bruins player finished in double figures, and the bench managed only 16 points.
