During the first three holes of the Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Golf Classic Tuesday at the Carnegie Abbey Club, Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers was on the phone with newly minted team owner Steve Ballmer. Rivers was listening and Ballmer was screaming with excitement.

Rivers expressed relief after having dealt with the fallout from (Donald) Sterling’s racist comments during last spring’s NBA playoffs.

“It’s awesome; it’s really nice,” he said. “We get a chance to play basketball. I’m a basketball coach. My players are basketball players and now we can go back to doing our jobs and I think that’s really important for us.”
