Corey Webster doesn’t think about the crossroads so much these days, especially not now that he’s standing at the foot of the stairway to hoops heaven.

(New Zealand native) Webster, C-Web to his mates, has been offered no guarantees, no assurances. Just a shot. But the Pelicans, home of NBA megastar Anthony Davis, have a roster spot open for a shooting guard who’s a long-range threat. It just so happens Webster fits that bill to a tee – if he can just convince (Pelicans head coach Alvin) Gentry to take a chance on him.

“This is the dream starting to come true,” Webster said at Breakers headquarters on Saturday as he explained an opportunity first raised on Thursday, before fast-forwarding into an imminent reality on a frantic Friday of almost unimaginable proportions. I’m a little … not really nervous, more excited. I was having a hard time processing it all yesterday because it was coming up so fast and there was a lot to organize, but it’s sunk in now and I’m real excited to go.”
