In the hours after Maccabi Tel Aviv stunned Real Madrid for the Euroleague basketball championship, Maccabi coach David Blatt told USA TODAY Sports in an e-mail he is “very interested” in a head coaching job in the NBA.
“No doubt in my mind I could do the job,” he said.
His run to the Euroleague title regenerated talk Blatt could be a successful coach in the NBA if given the chance. Undermanned Maccabi defeated CSKA Moscow in the Euroleague semifinals then knocked off talented Real Madrid in the finals.
“Obviously someone has to want you,” Blatt wrote. “A lot of great coaches in the States.”
