Sports betting has long been popular in countries across East and Southeast Asia, including Malaysia. It’s only in recent years, however, that technological developments have allowed an explosion in the number of online sportsbooks serving punters in these countries. BK8 Malaysia is one of the most famous and successful examples.
In this comprehensive review, you’re going to learn everything you need to know about BK8 in Malaysia. We’ll cover its safety measures, special offers, betting markets, customer service options, and much more besides. Ultimately, we’ll tell you whether it’s worth your time and money to sign up and start betting here.
What is BK8?
Some brands – like 888sport, Unibet, 1xBet, and so on – are aiming to appeal to customers all around the world. By contrast, BK8 is a sportsbook which is happy to exclusively target Asian customers. It has separate websites for a selection of different countries in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and – of course – Malaysia.
The Malaysian version really is aimed exclusively at punters from the country. There’s a Malay version of the entire website available, alongside the regular English one. You can also make payments directly in ringgit, rather than needing to use dollars, euros, and so on.
Apart from that, we can summarise BK8 as being the definition of an all-round modern sportsbook. It provides a user-friendly interface, lots of betting markets, some good ongoing promotions, a few useful special features, and plenty more. There are also separate sections for casino games, poker, lottery, and so on, if those take your fancy.
Is BK8 Safe?
This is one of the first things we look at, with any new brand we evaluate. After all, when both your hard-earned money and data are on the line, you want as much peace of mind as possible that both are being protected.
BK8 doesn’t go into a huge amount of detail on its security measures. It’s stated in the ‘About Us’ section that “BK8 takes extra precaution and necessary security measures to protect member’s personal information and privacy”. There aren’t many specifics on how this is done, however, although BK8 does clarify that all its servers are protected by powerful firewalls, and that all data transmissions are encrypted by 128-bit SSL. It’s also worth noting that access to user details is highly-restricted, with only authorised personnel able to view this information.
Crucially, BK8 is also licensed and regulated by the Government of Curacao. This isn’t quite as prestigious as a license with the UK Gambling Commission, but still ensures that BK8 has been vetted for both security and fairness.
BK8 Sign Up Bonus Overview
Almost every sportsbook will reward you for signing up in one form or another. BK8 really pushes the boat out here, however, by actually providing multiple welcome offers.
Below, you can get a quick overview of those deals, before we dive into the details of the main welcome offer.
|BK8 offer||Offer description||Wager requirement||Min qualify odds||Offer expiry||Min deposit|
|Sportsbook Welcome Bonus||200% Deposit Match, up to 800 MYR||12x rollover requirement||Not stated||30 days||50 MYR|
|Risk-Free First Bet||200 MYR risk-free first bet||5x rollover requirement||Not stated||7 days||100 MYR|
|Slots Welcome Bonus||100% Deposit Match, up to 800 MYR||8x rollover requirement||Not stated||30 days||50 MYR|
BK8 Free Bet Welcome Offer
The main welcome offer on the BK8 sportsbook is a classic ‘Deposit Match’ deal. As the name suggests, whatever your first deposit is here, it will be ‘matched’ by BK8 as a free bet. You must deposit at least 50 MYR in order to trigger the deal, and the size of the bonus will be 200% of your first deposit, up to a hefty 800 MYR.
Like all Deposit Match promotions, however, this one comes with a catch. Before withdrawing any winnings made using your bonus, you must complete a rollover requirement. In this case, you must wager through at least 12x your bonus amount before you can actually take out your winnings. You are given 30 days in which to do this, however, and no minimum odds are stated for these rollover wagers.
So far, we’ve focused on the two things we believe most potential punters will look at first – the safety measures and welcome deals which BK8 has to offer.
Now though, it’s high time to get stuck into the details of exactly what BK8 has to offer. Let’s take a look at its betting markets, in-play betting features, and more.
What Sports Can I Bet on at BK8?
The BK8 sportsbook is technically split across four separate sites – Saba-Sports, c-Sports, BK8-Sports, and s-Sports. This might sound confusing, but actually lets you choose the interface you prefer most out of four distinct options. Between these four sites, you’ll also find almost every major betting market covered.
Football is the most popular sport on BK8 Malaysia, as you’d expect. On just one of BK8’s sportsbooks, for example, you’ll find a whopping 1,500+ different markets. All major domestic, continental, and international tournaments are covered, and the depth of less famous competitions is also impressive.
Elsewhere, you’ll also find plenty of markets for the likes of basketball, tennis, golf, snooker, volleyball, cricket, and more. BK8 also has whole separate sites for fans of horse racing, eSports, and virtual sports. In short, both the breadth and depth of betting markets here is simply incredible.
BK8 Odds and Value
A bookie can offer all the markets in the world, of course, but – if its prices are poor – we’d still never recommend using it. After all, if your prices are unfairly low, you’ll always struggle to make a long-term profit.
Fortunately, with BK8 that is definitely not the case. In fact, its odds are actually very good indeed. Margins are kept extremely low here, at less than 8% across the entire platform, and under 7.5% for football markets specifically.
Technically there is a lack of odds boosts here, which you’re normally given on most modern-day betting sites. With the original odds being as good as this, however, you’re still given excellent value overall.
BK8 Malaysia clearly seeks to appeal to a wide range of customers. We can see this not only in the difference between the minimum and maximum amounts involved in the welcome offers, but in the difference between upper and lower betting limits too.
As on all sportsbooks, these limits do vary from market to market. Upper limits are kept nice and high though, standing at the equivalent of $80,000 for football wagers, over $50,000 for basketball bets and so on. The minimum stake amount is set at a lovely, low 2 MYR as well, which should be accessible for all levels of bettors.
For many punters, in-play betting has replaced the regular pre-match variety as their preferred way to wager. Unsurprisingly, BK8 Malaysia also covers this area impressively.
Each of the sub-sites here has its own entire live betting section. This tends to feature hundreds of live markets at a time. Football sees the most individual betting opportunities, as with pre-match, but the likes of basketball, eSports, tennis and more routinely have dozens of markets to pick between, if not more. Odds update regularly to reflect the latest goings-on, and both the placement and cashing out of live wagers is quick and easy to do.
The perfect companion to in-play betting is obviously live streaming, which helps you to spot the perfect time to both place and cash out your wagers. Of course, it also simply makes betting more fun.
Impressively, BK8 has indeed managed to put live streaming in place. Not just that, but it’s available for the two biggest betting markets of all – football and horse racing. The former can be accessed via one of the smaller, individual sportsbooks, while the latter is found in the ‘Racing’ subsection. In both cases you’ll find a solid range of events being streamed, and – in our testing – the streams loaded quickly and were generally of a high quality.
As touched upon earlier, BK8 doesn’t just provide several different sportsbooks, but also has a few other areas in place. These include casino games, slots, poker, and online lotteries, each of which has plenty of different individual options.
Elsewhere, BK8 has put a VIP program in place. Like all good loyalty schemes, this gives you better and better rewards the more you bet. The size of your withdrawal limits, reload bonuses, cashback rebates and more all increase as you progress through the levels, from Bronze all the way up to Diamond.
With BK8 Malaysia, you can get help with any issues 24/7, which is obviously fantastic. The quickest way to do this is via live chat, which is very easy to both access and use. Alternatively, you can use a messaging app to also get directly in touch with the support team.
Elsewhere, there’s also an ‘Info Centre’ in place. This is far less impressive though, with the FAQ being limited to a mere handful of questions, and the rest of the section mostly consisting of rules and T&Cs.
How to Get Started on BK8
Generally speaking, BK8 Malaysia is a pretty straightforward platform to use. It’s certainly quick and easy to get started here, with these being the few steps you need to take.
Step 1 – Head to the Home Page
For this guide, we’ll assume you’re using the main desktop version of BK8. If you’d prefer to use the mobile app instead, you’ll still be following similar steps. Either way, your journey will start at the main home page of the sportsbook.
Step 2 – Create an Account
To get the ball rolling here, hit the ‘Join Now’ button in the top-right. You will now see the first screen of the registration process, in which you must set a username and password, before clicking ‘Register’. At the second stage, you will be asked to provide a few personal details, including your email address, contact number, and date of birth. After this, simply hit the green button at the bottom of the page to complete the process, and finish creating your account.
Step 3 – Make a Deposit
Before you can make any bets, you obviously need to fund your account. Log in first, then hit the blue ‘Deposit’ button in the top-right. You’ll now see the handful of payment options you can choose between. Pick one, enter the amount you wish to deposit, click ‘Submit’, provide the necessary information, then confirm the payment.
Step 4 – Place Wagers
With your account funded, it’s high time to start placing wagers. Hover over ‘Sports’ along the top menu, then pick one of the available sportsbooks (e.g. ‘Saba Sports’). Once the sportsbook has loaded, choose the sport you want to bet on from the list on the left-hand side, then find the matchup and bet type you’re interested in. Click its corresponding odds to add that selection to your betslip, then set a stake and confirm the wager.
Step 5 – Verify Your Identity
As with all legitimate sportsbooks, you’ll need to verify your identity on BK8 Malaysia before you can make any withdrawals. This might slow you down a little, but is still an important anti-fraud measure.
Ensure you’re logged into your BK8 account, then hover over your username in the top-right and click ‘My Profile’. Towards the top of the next screen, you’ll see ‘User Verification’, along with several icons indicating the types of ID you must provide. Submit each one in turn via the live chat function, then wait for your identity to be verified.
Step 6 – Make a Withdrawal
Withdrawing winnings from your BK8 account is very easy indeed. When you’re logged in, you should see a ‘Withdraw’ button towards the top-right of your screen. Simply click this, pick one of the available options, provide the requisite payment details, enter the amount you wish to withdraw, and click ‘Submit’.
With a reported 87.6% of the population owning smartphones, it would be fair to call Malaysia a mobile-friendly country. On-the-go betting is popular among the nation’s punters too, and we’re pleased to say that – if this includes you – you’re very well-served on BK8.
There are BK8 apps available for both Android and iOS users. Both can be downloaded directly through the website, and BK8 even includes handy ‘Installation Guides’ to help you acquire and start using the apps.
The sports section of the BK8 app includes all the most important aspects of the desktop version, including betting markets, account management, and the ability to make deposits and withdrawals. There are a few mobile-specific features too though, including an express login tool, and the option to use either your face or fingerprint to log directly into your account.
Technically, the app performed well during our testing. We experienced no crashes at all, and the loading speeds were reasonable. Although the ‘multiple sportsbooks’ approach is a little harder to navigate on a mobile device than a desktop computer, all the other main areas of the app are easy to both find and use.
BK8 Bonus Code
In the past, BK8 has asked newcomers to use bonus codes in order to trigger its welcome offer. At the time of writing, this is not the case. If you read through the T&Cs carefully, and abide by all the rules within, you should be able to use the sign up bonuses without any issues.
In addition, there are also a whole range of ongoing promotions you can take advantage of. These include reload bonuses, cash rebates, and smaller deals for specific games. Once again, you don’t need to enter any promo code at all to use any of these offers.
BK8 Payment Methods
The payment methods available to you on BK8 depend on which country you’re logging in from. Malaysian punters won’t find the widest range of options, but there are still a few to choose from.
These are broken down into three main categories: ‘Quick Pay’, Bank Transfer, and Crypto. Those categories include three, five, and four options respectively. If you’re interested in using cryptos to further protect your identity, for example, you can choose between BTC, ETH, ERC, and TRC.
Elsewhere, the minimum amounts for both deposits and withdrawals are definitely fair. You can’t use any of the Quick Pay options for making a withdrawal, but – for the other two categories – BK8 requires a mere 25 minutes to process your payment on its end.
|Payment Method||Fees||Min Deposit||Min Withdrawal||Withdrawal Times|
|Quick Pay||0%||30 MYR||Unavailable||Unavailable|
|Bank Transfer||0%||20 MYR||50 MYR||25 Mins for Processing|
|Crypto||0%||0.05 BTC||50 MYR (Equivalent)||25 Mins for Processing|
BK8 Pros and Cons
As you’ll probably have noticed, we’ve generally stayed pretty positive in our review of the BK8 Malaysia sportsbook. Like all betting sites though, BK8 has both its strong and weak points, with these being some of the biggest examples in each case.
What we like:
- Betting Markets
The range of betting markets you can choose between here is simply enormous. Every major sport is covered, and the depth of the coverage – for both live and pre-match betting – is very good indeed.
- Range of Promotions
You’re given an exceptional amount of choice here, when it comes to both the welcome offer and ongoing promotions. The scale of these deals is also impressive, and they’re very clearly explained.
- Special Features
BK8 provides many features which are typically reserved for premium sportsbooks, such as live streaming and a wide range of virtual sports. The mobile app is also skillfully designed and well-made.
What we don’t:
- Site Structure
For first-time visitors, the structure of the site might be confusing. Rather than being concentrated on a single site, as with most brands, every section on BK8 is given its own website, including several different sportsbooks.
- Payment Methods
The range of payment methods isn’t terrible, but it’s not great either. eWallets are almost entirely absent, for example, as are prepaid card options.
Let’s not beat around the bush here. If you’re based in Malaysia, you aren’t exactly blessed with a huge number of sportsbooks specifically catering to your needs. Most bookies which do accept Malaysian punters are massive international brands, with no specific focus on Malaysia.
Among the few options which do buck this trend, BK8 is absolutely one of the very best. It specifically targets Malaysian bettors, accepting MYR payments and providing a full Malay version of the site. Even aside from that, this is simply an excellent sportsbook. The range of betting markets is enormous, as is the selection of betting offers. The direct customer support is responsive and helpful, and there are some very useful special features too.
BK8 Malaysia isn’t perfect, by any means. Its ‘multiple website’ structure is quite bizarre, and improvements could be made to the FAQ section and the selection of payment methods. Even in its current state though, this is a fantastic option for Malaysian bettors. It’s certainly good enough for us to recommend signing up, triggering one of the welcome offers, and taking things from there.
