PBA Betting Spreads
Also called handicap betting, wagering on the “Point Spread” is hugely popular. When it comes to PBA betting spreads, the underdog is given a points head start, so if you back them in the points spread market you have two chances to win. And that’s if they win outright or lose by less than the head start they have been given. On the other side of the coin, you can back the favourites to overcome that handicap.
Let’s say NorthPort Batang Pier are favourites in a game against Meralco Bolts. They have been given a “handicap” 0f 6.5 points so if you bet on the NorthPort with that handicap, they would need to win by seven points or more for your bet to be a winner. Or you could choose to bet on the Bolts +6.5, so if they win outright or lose by less than six points then your bet will be a winner!
There are numerous advantages to basketball handicap betting, the first of which is that it lets you back the favourite but earn a much more attractive price than backing them on the money line. And secondly, if you’re backing the underdog they don’t even need to win for you to secure a winning bet.
Total Points PBA Betting Odds
Sportsbooks will work out how many points they think both teams will score and then set what are called PBA betting lines. You can then choose whether to bet on whether the total points will be “Over”, or “Under” that line. For example, Magnolia Hotshots are facing NLEX Road Warriors and the line is set at 200.5. If you bet “Over”, then there would need to be at least 201 total points for your wager to be a winner. Or you could bet “Under” and hope for 200 total points or less!
Team Points Totals
You can also bet on whether a team points total will be over or under a certain amount. So, staying with the Hotshots and Road Warriors matchup, let’s say the Hotshots points total line is set at 87.5. You could back the over and hope for them to score 88 points or more. Or, if you expect them to underperform you could wager on the under and your bet would be a winner if they scored 87 points or less.
Quarter & Half PBA Betting Lines
A basketball game is split into four quarters and two halves, and many sites will offer overall or team points total markets in specific timeframes such as the first quarter.

This also means that PBA franchises are not based in a particular part of the country and do not have a home arena.The 2022 PBA season begins in June and finishes in April. The format of the PBA is different from many other basketball leagues worldwide in that the season does not culminate in one PBA champion being crowned. Instead, teams compete for three separate cups during the course of the campaign, one after the other. The first is the Philippine Cup, followed by the Commissioner’s Cup and then the season-ending Governors’ Cup.
The format of each cup is the same, as they all start with a standard league format. The PBA schedule is that all teams play each other once. The top eight sides then advance to the playoffs, which consist of four quarter-final matchups, two semi-final encounters and then the final game to determine the champion. Every quarter-final is a best-of-three series and the semi-finals and final are a best-of-seven series.
The PBA schedule does not include any matches between the winners of the three cups at the end of the season to determine an overall season champion. Each of the sides is considered champion, with the only slight difference being that the Philippine Cup is widely known as the most prestigious title. And the San Miguel Beerman are the reigning Philippine Cup champions after defeating TNT Tropang Giga 4-3 in a hotly-contested finals series.
