The Miami Heat announced Saturday that Chris Bosh will miss the remainder of the season, while being treated for blood clots on one of his lungs.
Bosh is receiving care under the guidance of Miami Heat team physicians at a Baptist Health System Hospital.
The star forward “is currently resting comfortably. Chris is OK and his prognosis is good,” the team said in a statement.
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said Friday that he was confident that Bosh’s condition is not life-threatening.
However, this is a particularly scary moment for Bosh and the NBA after former Portland Trail Blazers star Jerome Kersey died suddenly Wednesday of a blood clot in his lung. Kersey was 52.
Bosh, 30, was admitted to the hospital on Thursday after complaining about discomfort in his chest for several days.
With multiple clots, Bosh would be treated with blood thinners for pulmonary embolism. The medication required to treat such a condition typically requires at least six months of limited physical activity.
Bosh, a 10-time All-Star and two-time champion for the Heat, is averaging 21.1 points and 7.0 rebounds this season. He signed a guaranteed five-year contract last July for $118 million.
