Sports betting in Idaho is, at the time of writing, not currently legal. There are no options for online sports betting nor are there are casinos that take bets within a land-based sports betting section.
However, if you are based in Idaho, there are ways that you’re able to bet on sports without breaking the law. As with most US states, the laws around sports betting do not include offshore sportsbooks, meaning that you are able to sign up and wager with these brands without facing criminal charges.
Throughout this article, we will go into more information regarding Idaho sports betting along with a look at what we think are the best betting options for people in Idaho.

Best Idaho Sportsbooks Reviewed
1) Sportsbetting.ag – Best Overall for Idaho Sports Betting
Our top spot for Idaho sports betting sites is that of Sportsbetting.ag. The site has been live since 2001 and they’re widely regarded as one of the best online sportsbooks in the business these days.
We gave SportsBetting.ag top spot for its ability to cater to Idaho-based sports teams. There aren’t all that many, but the likes of Boise Hawks, Idaho Steelhead and Idaho Horsemen have all featured on the site at some point. What’s impressive is that the Horsemen are a professional indoor football team and SportsBetting is the only ‘book to offer markets on this.
One of the highlights of SportsBetting.ag is the huge betting limits. You can bet from as little as $1 right up to $25,000. Granted the latter is for NFL lines after the Thursday cut-off, but even when odds go live on a Monday, max bets are still as massive $15,000.
In terms of a standout feature, this must be live betting and its links with live streaming. The live betting section is a hive of activity, especially at weekends. When it’s linked with live streaming, it makes for one of the most immersive online betting experiences you’re going to find.
On top of all this, you’re getting access to a massive welcome bonus that’s worth up to $1,000. The bonus works based on 50% of your opening deposit and then requires you to wager through that bonus 10 times in 30 days. You need to use the bonus code SB1000 to trigger this offer.
- The absolute best when it comes to live betting and live streaming
- Lots of contests and promotions run throughout the year
- Good depth in markets for US-based sports
- Very low turnover requirement for the welcome offer (just 10x bonus amount)
- Dated design
2) BetOnline – Huge Welcome Offer and Promos
One of the main advantages of using BetOnline for us was knowing that we were getting the best prices almost every time. We’ve been able to test them up against a range of sportsbooks and they always perform strongly when it comes to odds.
They are best used for US sports, with coverage from football, basketball, baseball, and hockey being what they do best. Coverage outside of these is still good, but there are better options than this we feel.
The sportsbook lacks when it comes to betting on specific Maine-based teams. You will get access to the NCAA Division 1 games from the basketball teams of Boise State Broncos, Idaho Vandals and Idaho State Bengals, which is good to have.
BetOnline is synonymous with early prices, often posting up for games before the previous game week has even finished. This blows the likes of BetUS out of the water, who only post up one or two days before the start of a game week.
Other highlights include high betting limits, a huge range of cryptocurrency options for banking, bonuses linked to your payment option (Bitcoin bonuses as an example), great clearing rates and access to most Idaho sports teams, and you’ve got quite the package.
Finally, BetOnline comes in heavy with the promotions and the welcome offer is about as good as you will find. You can get up to $1,000 in bonus for new accounts which need to be wagered just 10x to clear the full amount. You’ve 30 days to clear the full bonus before it then expires.
- Best welcome offer in this sector with up to $1,000 in bonus cash
- Strong coverage for US-based sports
- Great range of payment options available, including Bitcoin
- Odds are some of the best you will find anywhere
- Not the best looking sportsbook in the world
3) BetUS – Best for eSports and Contests
BetUS is best known for its work in the live betting section. This area is one of the strongest and you get access to a huge range of sports. Most importantly, they include a lot of college games here, including Divison 1 NCAA games.
The basics are all there, such as market coverage, sports, odds and even design. In fact, it’s one of the best-looking sportsbooks that we’ve tested so far!
It’s the ability to go above and beyond that, we were most impressed with, particularly with the contests and live betting sections. In terms of contests, these change each week and usually target certain game weeks or sporting events. Things like betting squares, survivor pools, refer a friend raffle and the parlay challenge are just some of the events you will find.
Payment methods are a little limited with Visa, Mastercard and Bitcoin being your only options here. It’s worth noting that credit cards will have a 6% fee applied, so avoid these where you can. Cryptocurrency options are increasing though, with Bitcoin, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash and Ethereum now all accepted.
Their welcome bonus comes in the form of a massive sports and casino bundle, worth up to $3,125, making it the biggest in our list. To trigger the offer, you need to make a deposit of $100 or more and then wager through your bonus 10x on the sportsbook or 30x at the casino. You need to use the promo code JOIN125 when you make your deposit.
- The biggest welcome bonus in terms of monetary value
- Inclusion of contests and huge prizes attached to each
- Live betting
- Loyalty/VIP section where you can earn points as you bet
- Large minimum deposit ($100) to trigger the welcome offer
4) Bovada – Best for Live Betting and Live Streaming
Bovada provides another great option for sports betting in Idaho. College betting is a section that they are best known for, so the likes of the Broncos, Vandals, Bengals, Coyotes and Warriors all get regular air time within the site.
Market coverage within the sportsbook is excellent. The major sports such as NFL and NBA will have over 200 props to choose from, which is as big as you’re going to find.
Bovada is able to provide A+ customer support and is one of few that offers a 24/7 live chat function. A phone number and even an email address (quite rare these days) create a brilliant three-pronged support section.
The welcome offer that you can claim is worth up to $1,000 and to trigger this you need to use the bonus code BVD1000. Once in your account, you only need to wager through it 5 times before it’s converted from bonus money to cash. This is the lowest you will get of any of these offers, making it incredibly lucrative and highly sought after.
Bovada also has a ton of existing player promos, but the highlight has to be the rewards program. For this, you earn points as you bet which you can then exchange within their store for cash and bonuses. They are one of few that offer this feature to all players, regardless of status.
- Great for live betting with hundreds of markets to choose from
- The best-looking sportsbook and mobile betting app.
- Lowest wagering requirements for any of the welcome offers on this page
- Not much to choose from in terms of existing player promos
5) MyBookie – Best for US-based sports
MyBookie makes the list in 5th position, but to be honest, they could be ranked much higher than that. They are still, without doubt, one of the best Idaho sports betting sites in the business and one that we’ve loved testing.
Their strengths come from their depth of US-based sports. This is including football, basketball, baseball, and hockey. This is where you’re going to get the most from the sportsbook. Even though the rest of the sports coverage is good, it can’t live up to what’s on offer with these.
One of the areas that we were particularly impressed with was props and specials bets. A lot of the big games in the NFL for example have over 100 prop bets alone, including things like margin of victory, half betting, quarter betting, highest scoring half, first score method, number of touchdowns and many, many more.
Depositing money into the site can be done using Visa, Mastercard, bank wire and a range of cryptocurrency options. Deposits start from just $20 with Bitcoin Cash but are as high as $45 for Visa and Mastercard. Withdrawing money isn’t great, with limits starting at $50 and possible fees applied to bank wire and check.
The welcome offer is another $1,000 bonus which is a 100% match on your opening deposit. You only need to deposit $10 to trigger this, making it incredibly accessible. Once in your account, you need to wager the bonus 10 times before it’s credited as cash to your account.
- Best for US-based sports such as football and basketball
- Highly accessible welcome bonus with low minimum deposit trigger ($10)
- Huge range of prop bets for NFL games
- Lots of existing player promos
- No PayPal deposit option

Is Sports Betting Legal in Idaho?
Sports betting is not currently legal in the state of Idaho. They are one of many states that have yet to pass a bill saying otherwise and to be honest, look unlikely to do so any time in the future.
Idaho has been particularly quiet on the take up of sports betting and whilst many states have tried and failed, there has been little movement in Idaho. It’s been relatively strange to see a lack of enthusiasm for it, especially considering that they border three starts in Montana, Nevada, and Oregon that each has legal sports betting. As a result, they are likely losing out on a lot of money due to residents’ border-hoping to place their wagers.
In terms of if Idaho will even legalize sports betting, it’s tough to know. We would assume that at some point in the very near future there will be a bill that is created but whether or not that gets passed is another matter.
One of the biggest lures for the state is the fact that there are already 10 tribal casinos in Idaho. Lots of other states are using the casino as a base to host online sports betting sites, which you would think would be a great link for Idaho.
Even though there are no legal betting opportunities within the state, players are still permitted to access sportsbooks that are hosted outside of Idaho. All of the sites that we’ve listed on this page do just that and will legally accept players who want to sign up and bet from within state borders.
Idaho Sports Betting Timeline
- 1960 – Pari-Mutuel betting in the state allowed for the first time on horse racing.
- 1980 – State lottery first introduced
- 2018 – Relaxation of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) based by the US Supreme Court to allow gambling within individual states.
- 2021 – Reports that a bill might be created to be presented in 2022 to try and get passed by 2023.
Gambling Tax in Idaho
The tax rate for lotteries in the state of Idaho is set at 6.5%, which is in line with most other states. They also deduct a Federal Tax Rate of 24% from any winnings, making a total of 30.5%.
What Sports Can You Bet on in Idaho?
Through any of the sportsbooks that we have listed on this page, you’re going to get a good range of sports to choose from. All the sites cover US sports such as football, basketball, hockey and baseball about as well as any site can.
Outside of this, you will still get access to a wide range of sports, but this is going to change depending on the sportsbook that you’re betting with. Popular sports include tennis, golf, darts, cricket, rugby, motor racing, NASCAR, horse racing and UFC/boxing.
In terms of betting in the state, the only sport you’re able to bet on is that of horse racing. This is the only regulated sport and is very popular as a result.
eSports Betting in Idaho
eSports is a market that has continued to grow over the last few years and the coverage in Idaho is just as popular. For those that don’t know, eSports are essentially computer games that people are able to bet on.
The games range from team games to first-person shooters and include the likes of Counter Strike, DOTA, FIFA and Call of Duty, to name just a few.
All the betting sites that we’ve spoken about on this page offer some form of eSports betting for Idaho residents. The coverage does differ, but for us, the best in the business is that of Bovada, which includes the most games and then the largest coverage in terms of live betting.
Types of Betting Markets
- Props – Prop bets, for us, are some of the most important for any sportsbook. These are where you bet on markets that are not simply for one team to win or lose. Sportsbooks are able to get creative with these bets and most players love to bet on them.
- Money line – This is the most popular bet in sports betting. You simply pick the team to win as a straight-up bet.
- Points Spread – The points spread refers to handicaps that are applied to both teams. The favourite will have points dedicated and the underdog will have points added.
- Team Points (over/under) – This is the total number of team points scored in the game. You then need to choose the over or under the line set by the sportsbook.
- Total Points – This is where you combine the points scored for both teams and again, you choose the over or under for that game.
- Futures – These markets are bets that are going to happen sometime in the future. It might be for teams to win events like the Superbowl or World Series in baseball.
Bonuses at Idaho Sportsbooks
If you’re opening a new account with any of the Idaho sports betting sites, then you need to be making sure that you take advantage of some of the bonuses on offer. All the sites include some strong welcome offers, most over $1,000.
Use the table below to compare the bonuses on offer, the promo code that you need to use for each of these and the bonus expiry time once you’ve activated it.
|Sportsbook||Bonus||Promo Code||Minimum Odds||Bonus Expiry Time|
|MyBookie||100% deposit match up to $1,000 25% Reload bonus up to $500||MYBY 50 MYBY25||N/A||30 Days|
|Bovada||Up to $1000||BVD1000||N/A||30 Days|
|BetOnline||100% up to $1000||BOL1000||N/A||30 Days|
|Sportsbetting.ag||100% up to $1000
25% reload bonus up to $250
|BetUS||125% up to $2,500||JOIN125||N/A||14 Days|
Idaho Mobile Betting Apps
Mobile betting is now as popular as online betting and as a result, all sportsbooks are now compatible on mobile. The brands that we’ve spoken about on this page will have either a mobile betting app or a mobile betting site.
You’re going to be able to access these from a range of devices, such as Apple and Android. After testing all the mobile options for the sportsbooks, we’ve been impressed to see that they are all of a good standard. If we were to pick the best Idaho mobile betting app, this would have to be Bovada for its looks and usability alone.
Live Betting and Streaming in Idaho
Live betting is another key area for any sportsbook, and we are happy to report that all of our top five Idaho sports betting sites include live betting. Live streaming is a little less common, but there are a couple of the sites that do offer this, including Bovada and Sportsbetting.ag, as two of the better options.
What we like most about the live betting options is the sheer volume of markets that are available to bet on. Most pre-game bets are turned live, although things like props and futures generally aren’t included in this.
How to Compare Idaho Sportsbooks
We take a lot of time and pride in creating online reviews of Idaho sports betting sites. We’ve created a team whose only job is to form these reviews and then report our findings back to you.
There is a range of features that we include with each of our reviews, and we see these as key areas for finding the best of the best when it comes to sports betting. Below we’ve included these areas and what we’re looking for in each.
Range of markets
What you often find with most sportsbooks is that they all cover the same or very similar ranges of sports. What differentiates them is the range of markets that they have within each of these sports. The best can have hundreds to choose from and it’ll come as no surprise to hear that NBA and NFL games are generally the biggest in terms of markets.
You need to be able to access a great bonus. The best isn’t necessarily the biggest and the key thing to factor in with welcome bonuses is usually the turnover on the bonus. Anything at 10x or below is deemed to be very favourable for the player.
Moving money in and out of your betting account should be seamless. We like to see a large range of banking options such as Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Neteller, Apple Pay, Google Pay and most recently, Bitcoin. There should be no fees attached with any of these methods and moving money should never take more than a few days.
Licensing & security
Being fully licenses means that the sportsbooks are going to be held accountable for their actions. They often need to be able to adhere to a certain set of rules which are designed to keep players’ information and money, safe.
Are Online Casinos Legal in Idaho?
Online casinos in Idaho are not legal and follow the same set of rules that is applied to online sports betting. There are currently no online casinos that are in the state and at the time of writing, there are no plans for this to change any time soon.
However, even though Idaho as a state has been unable to get any online gambling off the ground yet, the fact that they have several land-based casinos is a good sign. Most other states that have been able to give online gambling the green light have worked with existing land-based casinos to create online opportunities. If this were to happen in Idaho then a large, already established network would be ready to go.
Land-Based Gambling in Idaho
Idaho Land Based Casinos
Idaho entertains several land-based casinos that are located throughout the state. The problem with a lot of them is that they aren’t “casinos” as we would typically know, and most are just truck stops that includes a ton of casino games.
What’s interesting about Idaho is that slots are legal, along with other casino games, but table games are not legal. So, all casinos are made up of machine-based casino games and not typical of what you’d expect from a Las Vegas casino, as an example.
The list of Idaho casinos is below:
- Coeur d’Alene Casino, Worley
- Fort Hall Casino, Fort Hall
- Clearwater Casino, Lewiston
- Kootenai River Inn and Casino, Bonners Ferry
- Bannock Peak Casino, Pocatello
- It’Se-Ye-Ye Casino, Kamiah
- Les Bois Park Racing, Garden city
DFS in Idaho
One of the biggest nails in the coffin for sports betting in Idaho is the fact that DFS is illegal within the state. They are one of the very few states in the country to not allow it and not deem it to be a game of skill.
The state has worked closely with some of the leading DFS companies to make sure that they do not accept players from the state. Given the reluctance to even allow DFS, it does make you wonder about the future for any legal sports betting being allowed any time soon.
Horse Racing Betting in Idaho
Horse racing is one of the very few legal gambling activities within the state. There are four tracks in total and these include Cassia County Fair, Eastern Idaho State Fair, Oneida Downs, and Pocatello Downs. They also include Jerome Racing, Rupert Downs, and Sandy Downs, but they have not listed any racing since the start of the pandemic and it’s unsure if they will reopen at all.
One of the best things about horse racing in the state is that you’re able to connect with some of the biggest horse racing betting sites, like BetAmerica, TVG and Twin Spires. They are all dedicated to horse racing and you’re able to bet on both your phone and online with each from within the state.
Unfortunately, the future isn’t bright for online sports betting in Idaho. It’s not dead in the water by any means, but it’s unlikely that we will see any change moving through 2021 and into 2022.
However, there are plenty of betting opportunities for players in Idaho by using offshore betting sites. We’ve included a range of the best Idaho sports betting sites on this page, but our top pick is that of Sportsbetting.ag, mainly for their range of live betting and live streaming features.
