In an alternate universe, Jimmy Butler could have been a Knick this season.
If Carmelo Anthony had decided to go to Chicago, Butler quite possibly would have been one of the pieces coming to the Knicks in a sign-and-trade with the Bulls.
But when Anthony decided to remain with the Knicks, the Bulls went out and used their cap space to sign Pau Gasol — someone the Knicks hoped to bring to New York to help implement the triangle — and Butler remained in Chicago as one of the Bulls’ starting wings.
