Kobe on Detroit Love: ‘Something I never thought I’d see’
Though the fans here might have despised (Kobe) Bryant at one point, he received nothing but cheers on Sunday. And the announcer whose adage might have haunted Bryant at one point listed off every one of Bryant’s accomplishments during an extended and thunderous introduction before the game. The crowd was filled with purple-and-gold clad fans waving signs and wearing his jersey. “Kobe” chants rang out all night.
“Tonight was crazy,” Bryant said after scoring five points on 2-of-15 shooting. “To get my name chanted here in Detroit and then getting chants of encouragement, and I make a shot here and there, it’s a beautiful feeling. It’s something I never thought I’d see.”
