Contending teams view the trade deadline as one of their last chances to improve before the upcoming playoffs. Rebuilding teams — like the Magic — often regard the deadline as an opportunity to stockpile future draft picks or young players who might accelerate the rebuilding process.
“We’re exploring all options that may improve our team,” Magic General Manager Rob Hennigan said. “But in terms of aggressively, actively trying to do something? I would say no [we’re not].”
