Atlanta Hawks vs Memphis Grizzlies News
The Atlanta Hawks enter Friday evening’s contest with the Memphis Grizzlies as the Eastern Conference’s hottest team and winners of six in a row.
This run of impressive play comes as sort of a sigh of relief for Hawks fans after watchign them play less than stellar basketball for the first month. They hovered around the .500 mark for the first seven games of the season before losing the next six in a row.
While the win steak has managed to get them back to their previous mark of one game above .500, there have been encouraging signs. Young has yet to really find his three-point shooting this year, but he’s been better as of late. They currently sit at the ninth spot in the east, but getting over the .500 hump is a great start for a team that not just has playoff aspirations, but making a run in said playoffs.
Meanwhile, the Grizzlies enter this game right at that mark with a record of 9-9 but do currently sit as the Western Conference’s seventh seed.
Ja Morant has been playing like a mad man this season, up from 19.1 points per game to 25.3 per game. We’ve also seen secure nearly two more rebounds per game than his sophomore campaign. Right now, he’s the favorite on BetUS for the Most Improved Player Award.
Grizzlies guard Dillon Brooks has only played in five games this year and is questionable for tonight’s contest. The Grizzlies have been pleased with Desmond Bane’s production this year, as well as the rim protection they get between Jaren Jackson Jr. and Steven Adams. While Jackson Jr. is averaging two blocks per game, I still think Memphis is hoping to see more from him on the boards and the offensive end.

Atlanta Hawks vs Memphis Grizzlies Preview
Memphis getting Dillon Brooks back could end up being a huge factor in this game. I like what I’ve seen from Atlanta over its run, and every time I watch Morant play, I come away even more impressed than the last time.
The Hawks are hot, but if the Grizzlies get Brooks back, it could be a wash. Based on the line Vegas has set for this contest of just a one-point spread in Memphis’ favor, this one can really go either way.
Ja Morant seems to take these matchups with other top point guards in the league personally. He currently averages 31.1 points+rebounds per game, which is why I like his prop tonight.
Let’s see if there’s any trends we can get from to this point we could follow from TeamRankings, or if it’s a good time to fade one.
Memphis is currently 4-3 ATS as a home favorite this year.
Atlanta is currently 0-6 ATS as an away underdog.
The over is 6-4 in Memphis home games, 5-2 when a home favorite.
The over is 5-5 in Atlanta away games, 3-3 as an away underdog.
Atlanta Hawks vs Memphis Grizzlies Picks
For the main pick, I think we have to go over. I know unders had gone crazy earlier in the season and that 227 is a high total, I’m going with the trends on this one. In Atlanta’s winning streak, they’re averaging 118.5 points per game. Memphis averages 114.4 at home. I’m rolling with the over.
If I have to take a side, I think I’m going against the grain in this one. Systems or trends like that always make me a bit more nervous if there hasn’t been a single win for s single side yet like the Hawks ATS as an away underdog. It seems like the perfect time to fade it with how well they’ve been playing. Also, Memphis is just 1-4 against the Eastern Conference this season. Give me Atlanta to keep rolling. I’ll take the point.
Zach’s Picks: O227, Atlanta +1
Zach’s Bonus Prop: Ja Morant O29.5 Points+Rebounds
