When a question was posed to him about the Cavs still having enough talent to win in the form of two max players in Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, (Cavs coach David) Blatt fired back, “Well Kev’s not a max player yet, is he?”

There is a lot of jargon involved in max player contracts. Technically Blatt is correct. Love did not receive the full max extension from the Timberwolves in 2012, which is why he’s in Cleveland today. But it’s a moot point. It was the wrong thing to say by a coach who is still working to earn the trust and respect of his players. I know he didn’t intend it to be a shot at Love, but that’s how it came out.
