Three players scored in double figures as Grand Canyon University claimed its first road win of the season with a 66-61 decision over Illinois-Chicago on Tuesday at the Pavilion in Chicago.

Guard Ryan Majerle scored 15 points, forward Kerwin Smith had 12 and guard Jerome Garrison added 10 as the Antelopes (3-4) broke a two-game losing streak.

Guard Jay Harris scored a game-high 17 points while forward Jake Wiegand had his fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Flames (2-6).

Wiegand has now scored in double figures in all eight games this season.

Grand Canyon never trailed in the early going, opening a 14-6 lead less than seven minutes in.

The Flames forced a 21-21 tie with 4:17 left on forward Jason McClellan’s 3-pointer, but the Antelopes scored the final five points for a 26-21 halftime lead.

The teams twice exchanged leads in the second half but Grand Canyon grabbed the advantage for good on guard Joshua Brand’s jumper with 12:04 left for a 38-37 lead.

Both teams resume play Saturday as Illinois-Chicago hosts former Horizon League rival Loyola-Illinois while Grand Canyon entertains Great Falls.
