Heat waive G Brown, sign C Whiteside

The Miami Heat waived guard Shannon Brown and signed center Hassan Whiteside, the team announced Monday.

Brown signed with the Heat on Aug. 27 and averaged four points in 17.8 minutes while appearing in five games.

Whiteside averaged 22 points, 15.7 rebounds, 5.33 blocks in 28.7 minutes while shooting 85.7 percent from the field in three games for the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League.

Whiteside was a second-round pick of the Sacramento Kings in 2010. He appeared in 19 games over two seasons with Sacramento before playing in Lebanon and China.

Before joining Iowa, Whiteside was in training camp with the Memphis Grizzlies.
