NEW YORK — New York Knicks shooting guard J.R. Smith missed Sunday’s game with the Toronto Raptors with a sore left foot.

Smith was originally listed as questionable with the injury after missing the previous two games in San Antonio and Boston. Coach Derek Fisher said before the game that Smith would start but in the locker room, his foot was heavily wrapped.

The Knicks said Saturday that an MRI on Smith’s foot revealed a small tear of the plantar fascia, an injury commonly associated with big men.

In the second-year of a three-year contract, Smith is averaging 10.3 points per game, his lowest total since 2005-06 with New Orleans. Smith is shooting 41 percent and 32.4 percent on 3-pointers.
