Xavier coach Chris Mack is staying put after meeting with Cal about its job opening, according to ESPN.

Mack, 44, has guided the Musketeers to the NCAA Tournament in four of his five seasons as coach. He took Xavier to the regional semifinals twice (2010 and 2012). The Musketeers went 21-13 and lost in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament this season.

Mike Montgomery retired earlier this month after six seasons as Cal’s coach. The 67-year-old previously coached Montana, Stanford and the Golden State Warriors. He has campaigned for assistant coach Travis DeCuire to replace him.

The Bears went 21-14 this season and will lose guard Justin Cobbs and forward Richard Solomon to graduation.
