Mavs vs Suns: Preview, Prediction and Betting Picks

The Dallas Mavericks and the Phoenix Suns head into their first head-to-head encounter of the season on Wednesday, 10 PM EST, with both aiming to continue their respective win streak.
Unfortunately for the Mavs, they will have to do it without Luka Doncic, who hurt his ankle in Monday’s 111-101 win over the Denver Nuggets.
BetUS.com also agrees Dallas sans Doncic will have a difficult time against the Suns. The US sportsbook pegs the road team as 8.5-point underdogs to Phoenix, who are 5-2 at Footprint Center so far.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Phoenix Suns Team News
Just as when the Mavericks were beginning to build momentum, terrible news shook the entire locker room last Tuesday. Doncic, the team’s bona fide star, will be missing several games with an ankle injury. Tim McMahon of ESPN detailed that Doncic’s sore ankle wasn’t serious, and it may only take a few games before he returns to the lineup. Nevertheless, the prospect of seeing Doncic in street clothes over the next few games means the Mavs will be missing both their leading scorer, rebounder, and assister all at the same time. Doncic averaged 24.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.9 assists in 34.8 minutes of play this season.
Meanwhile, the ongoing investigation into alleged misdeeds by Suns majority owner Rob Server had taken another interesting turn on Tuesday. This came after New York-based Wachtell Lipton, the law firm conducting the investigation, said it would guarantee confidentiality to those employees who would wish to keep their identity anonymous after participating in interviews. The NBA commissioned the law firm to find out if Server indeed committed several grave misconducts, including allegations of racism and misogyny.

Dallas Mavericks vs Phoenix Suns Preview
The Mavericks have won five of their last six games, entering Wednesday’s showdown with the Suns. Last Monday, Dallas proved why they remain one of the top teams in the West after outscoring the No.1 defensive team in the league, 111-101. Kristaps Porzingis delivered his scoring performance this season, recording 29 points on 11-for-20 shooting and 5-for-8 from three-point area to go along with 11 rebounds. Doncic still managed to put up a terrific all-around game with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists.
Jalen Brunson also chipped in 17 points and six assists off the bench to help the Mavs spoil another eye-popping statistical line from Nikola Jokic, who finished with 35 points, 16 boards and six assists.
The Suns, meanwhile, have extended their winning streak to nine games behind another clutch performance by Chris Paul. The All-Star floor general recorded 19 of his 21 points in the 4th quarter to push Phoenix past the Minnesota Timberwolves, 99-96. Devin Booker scored 29 points while DeAndre Ayton racked up a double-double with 22 points and 12 boards.
Dallas Mavericks vs Phoenix Suns Prediction
Again, this is the first time the Mavs and Suns face each other after the latter blanked the former in all three games during the 2020-21 NBA season. With Doncic sitting on the bench, the Suns will have the upper hand against the Mavs. Apart from the fact that they are the healthier team, Phoenix is riding on a hot run, and it seems no team has enough talent to match them fire-with-fire, at least not in their next six games.
The Suns are the fourth-best offensive team in terms of points per game (111 ppg), while the Mavs are mediocre at best (105 ppg). Phoenix is undoubtedly capable of breaching the century mark with all the offensive firepower at its disposal. Unfortunately for the Mavs, their dependency on Luka Doncic’s genius-level shot-creating ability will be badly exposed in this game. They will try to look for Kristaps Porzingis to bail them out, but the Mavs will soon find that replacing Doncic’s production is quite a tall order.
