Ball and Hornets Lose Heartbreaker to Bucks

The Hornets and Bucks played an epic matchup, with Milwaukee coming out on top 127-125 after Giannis Antetokounmpo’s bucket with 0.5 seconds remaining. LaMelo Ball made a fadeaway 3-pointer – his eighth of the game – with 5.9 seconds left to pull the Hornets even at 125. After a timeout, Jru Holliday fed Antetokounmpo near the top of the lane for the reverse left-side layup.

Ball had a career-high 36 points for the Hornets, followed by Kelly Oubre Jr. with 25 and Miles Bridges with 22 points. LaMelo hit 12 of 22 shots, including 8 of 15 from beyond the arc, along with nine assists. Charlotte entered last in scoring defense at 114.9 points per game and was without two of its better inside defenders, Cody Martin (illness) and Mason Plumlee (right calf strain). They will be short-handed in this road tilt with Atlanta.

Budding Superstar Trae Young Leading the Hawks

After a rocky start to the season adjusting to their laundry list of injuries, the Atlanta Hawks are playing some of their best basketball of the season. They have won eight of their last 11 games and have ramped up their intensity. Although allowing 107.9 points per game (ranked 20th), they lead the NBA with the fewest number of turnovers.

Trae Young and his elite ball-handling skills are a big reason why. The third-year budding superstar is averaging 26.3 points and 9.1 assists on a rock-solid 46.6% from the field. He’s only averaging 3.82 turnovers per game, which is a big improvement from his line just a year ago. They are third in assist-turnover ratio and are sixth with a 56.5 true shooting percentage. As the season continues, look for the Hawks to get even better as they get healthier for the long mid-season grind.

Charlotte Hornets vs. Atlanta Hawks Prediction

After a rocky start to the season adjusting to their laundry list of injuries, the Atlanta Hawks are playing some of their best basketball of the season. They have won eight of their last 10 games on the shooting prowess of Trae Young. Hawks head coach Nate McMillan missed Wednesday’s win as part of the league’s health and safety protocols. It’s unclear whether he will be on the bench against the Hornets after missing Thursday’s game against the 76ers.

The Hornets suffered a devastating last-second loss to the Milwaukee Bucks after holding a 19 point first-half lead. They are really struggling on the defensive end this season, giving up a league-worst 114.9 points per game. They won’t have LaMelo or Terry Rozier for this game. Atlanta is 5-1 in their last six home games and 5-1 against the spread in their last six against Eastern Conference foes. Trust the Hawks to come out on top and cover the spread at home.

Charlotte Hornets vs. Atlanta Hawks Totals Pick

The Hornets rank second in pace this season, averaging a whopping 114.9 points per game. Although they run the floor and score in bunches, their opponents have been doing the same. They currently sit 26th in defensive rating and have been routinely abused on the glass. The Hawks can deliver a scoring burst of their own with Trae raining threes. The total number has gone over in four of Atlanta’s last five games. Both of these clubs will have a tough time stopping one another, which should make for an easy over on the projected number. Trust it and take the over with confidence.
