ABC’s broadcast of the 2014 NBA Finals on ABC averaged 15,524,000 viewers and a 9.3 U.S. household rating, according to Nielsen.

The San Antonio Spurs’ series victory over the Miami Heat in five games drew more viewers than the 15,120,000 who watched the Heat defeat the Spurs in the NBA Finals last year. The 2013 finals had a 9.1 rating.

Sunday’s series clincher generated 17,881,000 viewers, representing a 10 percent increase from 16,267,000 in 2013. Viewership peaked with 22,400,000 viewers in the last half hour of the game.

Also, Game 5 had a 10.3 rating, up 8 percent from its 9.5 rating in 2013.

All five games helped ABC win the television ratings and viewership each night they were broadcast. Sunday’s game more than doubled its competition.

The NBA Finals averaged 374,000 unique viewers on ESPN3, an increase of 53 percent from 244,000 for the first five games in 2013.

Also, Sunday’s game generated more than 6.4 million tweets. That was more than any other game this season and more than triple the number over last year’s Game 5.

The series received 16.6 million tweets in all.
