SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Forward Zach Auguste led a balanced attack with a game-high 20 points as Notre Dame beat Navy 92-53 in a Sunday non-conference clash at Purcell Pavilion.

Starting guards Jerian Grant and Pat Connaughton had 17 and 13 points, respectively, while forward V.J. Beachem added 10 off the bench for the Irish (2-0).

Guard Brandon Venturini scored 11 points while forward Edward Alade added 10 for the Midshipmen (0-2) who had 15 players record court time.

Notre Dame trailed briefly in the opening half then moved ahead to a 36-28 lead by halftime. The Irish then blitzed the Midshipmen 56-25 in the second half as 11 Notre Dame players had minutes.

Navy was coming off a 64-59 loss at No. 18 Michigan State while Notre Dame beat Binghamton 82-39 in Friday’s season opener and gave coach Mike Brey his 400th career win as a college coach.

The meeting was the first between the teams since 1980.
